6^th Sunday After the Exaltation of the Holy Cross
Gerasene Demoniac

Commemoration of the Holy Martyrs Marcian and Martyrius, secretaries.
Martyrius was a lector and Marcian a cantor. They both filled the position of secretary to St. Paul, Patriarch of Constantinople at the time of Emperor Constantinius the Arian. Paul was exiled in Armenia where the Arians strangled him. Constantius put the two secretaries to death in the year 358. They were buried close to the walls of Constantinople and their grave became a shrine for pilgrims. St. John Chrysostom began the building of a church in their honor, and Patiarsh Sisinnius completed it.

Scripture Memory

“From now on, let no one make troubles for me; for I bear the marks of Jesus on my body” (Gal 6:17).

“When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him; in a loud voice he shouted, ‘What have you to do with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!’” (Luke 8:28).
