3rd Sunday After the Holy Cross
The Widow’s Son
Holy Apostle Luke the Evangelist

Commemoration of the Holy Apostle Luke the Evangelist.
Luke was born in Antioch of Syria where he later practiced medicine. He became a disciple of Paul and his most faithful companion, fellow-worker and beloved friend. He is the author of the Third Gospel and of the Acts of the Apostles. His symbol is the bull, the third animal in the vision of Ezechiel (1:10), because he opens his recounting with a scene of Jewish religious life in the Temple of Jerusalem where the bull was the animal most often sacrificed.

Scripture Memory

“Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you know how you should respond to each one” (Col 4:5-6).

“When the Lord saw her, he was moved with pity for her and said to her, ‘Do not weep.’ He stepped forward and touched the coffin; at this the bearers halted, and he said, ‘Young man, I tell you, arise!’” (Lk 7:13-14).
