Sunday After the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Seventh Day of Celebration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross; commemoration of the Great-Martyr Eustathius, his wife Theopista and their two children Agapius and Theopista.

These saints were martyred in Rome under Emperor Trajan (98-117). It is told that they were first thrown to devouring beasts that respected them and did them no harm. They were then enclosed in a red hot cauldron where they consummated their martyrdom.

Scripture Memory

“For through the law I died to the law, that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ; yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me; insofar as I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who has loved me and given himself up for me” (Galatians 2:19-20).

“He summoned the crowd with his disciples and said to them, ‘Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the gospel will save it’” (Mark 8:34-35).
