13th Sunday After Pentecost
The Wicked Tenants

Leave-taking of the Feast of the Dormition of our Blessed Lady the Mother of God; commemoration of the Holy Martyrs Luppus and of the Holy Hieromartyr Irenaeus, Bishop of Lyons.
Luppus was probably a disciple of St. Demetrius. He was beheaded under Emperor Maximian.
Irenaeus, born in Asia Minor, was a pupil of St. Polycarp, the disciple of the apostles, who sent him to preach in Gaul. As Bishop of Lyons he expounded the Orthodox faith in many writings, defending it against the heretics. He is one of the foremost Fathers of the Church of the third century.

Scripture Memory

“By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been ineffective. Indeed, I have toiled harder than all of them; not I, however, but the grace of God [that is] with me” (1 Cor 15:10).

“Again I say to you, ‘it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God’” (Matt 19:24).
