12th Sunday After Pentecost
The Rich Young Man

Second Day of Celebration of the Dormition; transfer of the Icon of the Holy Viel of our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ; commemoration of the Holy Martyr Diomedes.
This picture, called “the icon not made by human hands” was brought to Constantinople about 944. Traditionally, this is believed to have been a picture of our Lord in person which had been given to Abgar, King of Edessa.
Diomedes suffered death for the faith at Nicea of Bithynia in the beginning of the fourth century, under Emperor Diocletian.

Scripture Memory

“By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been ineffective. Indeed, I have toiled harder than all of them; not I, however, but the grace of God [that is] with me” (1 Cor 15:10).

“Again I say to you, ‘it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God’” (Matt 19:24).
